The European Commission has published the “Digital Transformation Scoreboard – 2018” report, which aims to illustrate the state of the art of digital transformation in the industry of the EU 28 Member States. The methodology, which investigates two non-ICT sectors (food and construction), is based on a qualitative and quantitative analysis through direct interviews with companies, analysis of national statistics, and the results of Digital Pulse, an index that measures the level of implementation of digital technologies.
According to this analysis, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, and Belgium are the leading countries for digital transformation in Europe.
The strengths of Italy, despite remaining below the European average in the dimensions analysed, are entrepreneurial culture, digital transformation, and e-leadership.
Areas for improvement include investment and access to funding, and the supply and demand of digital skills.
