2018 SACE Report on Italian Exports

The 2018 Export Report, "Keep calm & Made in Italy", was presented in Milan on 12 June. The report, produced by the SACE research department, is subtitled "A world of possibilities for Italian exports, despite the uncertainties".This annual study serves as an important information tool regarding the competitive positioning of the Italian production system within the global economy.

The Report confirms the expansionary phase of the economic cycle, which is expected to continue for at least this year and next; global growth stood at 3.8% in 2017 and will continue at similar levels in 2018-2019. The Report also highlights the significant role that exports play in GDP, supported by investments, the recovery in commodity prices, and the trade agreements that have been signed.

Italian exports also grew by 7.4% in 2017 (compared to the previous year). The gap to be bridged is in infrastructure: "For an economy that relies on exports for more than 30% of its GDP, investing in transport infrastructure is an essential condition for competitiveness".

There is significant scope for Made in Italy goods in global trade, which, through greater use of e-commerce channels by companies, could provide a further boost to the already lively growth dynamics of our exports in the coming years.
