OTI North-West 2018 Report

The 2018 OTI Northwest Report, produced by Assolombarda, Confindustria Genova, and the Unione Industriali di Torino, has been published, providing an update on the progress of key infrastructure projects essential for revitalising the logistics system in our region.

The report highlights that of the 45 projects monitored in 2018, 93% were experiencing difficulties, a deterioration compared to the previous two-year period: only 3 progressed as expected, while 20 showed no progress at all.

44% of the monitored projects (20 out of 45) have been slowed down or stalled by the ongoing lack of funding required for their advancement.

In particular, of the 9 major new railway infrastructure projects intended to form the backbone of sustainable freight and passenger transport in this area, 8 have seen no progress, and one has progressed more slowly than scheduled.

For the Turin-Lyon, Terzo Valico, and Brescia-Verona projects, construction work totalling 5.4 billion did not commence in 2018, despite these resources being available.

Delays in completing the works that connect us to European countries have direct consequences on the import/export capacity of our businesses (60% of Italian economic trade takes place with the rest of Europe), on the competitiveness and attractiveness of the northwest regions, and on the development potential of strategic infrastructure hubs for the country (ports, freight villages, and airports located in the northwest).
