The second call for proposals for the Innovative Medicines Initiative 2 programme has been published

The IMI 2 Joint Undertaking is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the European Union, represented by the European Commission, and EFPIA (the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations), which represents the interests of European pharmaceutical industries and associations (33 national associations, 39 leading pharmaceutical companies, and approximately 1,900 businesses) with the aim of developing new vaccines, medicines, and treatments to address the evolving challenges in the European healthcare sector and ensure the international competitiveness of the European pharmaceutical industry.

The 2015 call (call 6) is intended to fund research and innovation actions (with a 100% non-repayable co-financing rate), with a dedicated budget for the Big Data for Better Outcomes (BD4BO) programme.

Consortia may choose to submit proposals for one of the 4 topics covered by the 2015 call:

  • Development of Quantitative Systems Toxicology (QST) to improve the understanding of new medicines;
  • Establishing the impact of RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) infection, the resulting disease, and public health approaches to reduce its consequences;
  • Real World Outcomes Across the AD (Alzheimer’s disease) Spectrum (ROADS) for improved care;
  • Development of an outcomes-focused platform to empower clinicians and policymakers to optimise care for patients with haematological diseases;

The call is structured in two stages; applications for the first stage must be submitted by 12 January 2016. Proposals that pass the first selection stage must submit their second-stage applications by 14 June 2016.
