The Lombardy-based company Nidec ASI S.p.A. has been awarded a contract worth nearly €22 million by F4E, the European agency managing the European Union's contribution to the construction of the ITER experimental nuclear fusion reactor.
The Milanese firm, which specialises in electrical and automation systems, motors, and power electronics, won the tender for the “Acceleration grid power supply conversion system”. The contract covers the design, production, testing, delivery, assembly, installation, and commissioning of the Acceleration Grid Power Supply Conversion System (AGPS-CS) at the ITER site.
Nidec ASI S.p.A., a member of Assolombarda, participated in a conference organised by Confindustria Lombardia in collaboration with ENEA regarding the opportunities presented by the ITER project. The event, which included one-to-one meetings with F4E representatives, was specifically aimed at increasing Lombardy's participation in ITER tenders. While the Italian industrial sector has a strong track record of success with the project, companies in Lombardy are not yet capitalising on these opportunities to the same extent as their counterparts in Piedmont.
