2015 Observatory of the Lombardy Mobility Cluster

We are publishing the statement from the President of the Lombardy Mobility Cluster Saverio Gaboardi, following the CLM's participation in the event organised by Confindustria Lombardia, '#Lombardia2030 - Sharing the Future', as part of the Cluster panel.

I attended the insightful meeting on 23 February dedicated to the stakeholder discussion on the #Lombardia2030 Strategic Plan, and I believe it is useful to supplement the reflections that emerged with a specific contribution regarding the role and scale of the Mobility Cluster in Lombardy, which, in the automotive sector, consistently ranks fifth in Europe and second in Italy, after Piedmont.

The Cluster, established on 24 July 2013 at the initiative of the Lombardy Region, covers one of the nine technological areas identified by the Lombardy Region in agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), with the aim of promoting and facilitating the growth and competitiveness of the Lombard mobility industry.

The Cluster encompasses road, rail, and water transport, as well as intermodal logistics.

In the attached publication, you will find key data on this sector and a summary of the "Strategic Research Agenda" through which, together with our national counterpart (CTN Tra.It 2020), we contribute to defining research and innovation trajectories projected towards 2030 and 2050, with an indication of priorities for 2020.

The objectives stated at the time and the initiatives implemented by the Cluster are significantly confirmed

- by the research "The automotive sector in the main European countries" promoted by the 10th Industry, Commerce, and Tourism Commission of the Senate of the Republic, with the support of Unioncamere and Prometeia;

- and by the work of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) in defining a strategy for the use of LNG (liquefied natural gas), which we have long been supporting through specific projects.

Finally, I observe that the positive climate currently spreading within the automotive sector, thanks to the success of new products manufactured in Italy, which brings our country back among the ranks of vehicle producers, encourages investment in components and facilitates the Cluster's activities.

I remain at your disposal for any further information you may require.

Saverio Gaboardi, President
