New call for expressions of interest for interregional thematic partnerships in response to the coronavirus pandemic

A new initiative has been launched by the European Commission: a call for expressions of interest aimed at thematic partnerships on an interregional basis, with the aim of promoting innovation projects to support recovery in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The objective of this call is to help regions seize opportunities arising from the crisis, develop resilience, and leverage the green and digital transition for the recovery of the most affected sectors, such as tourism and health.

The Commission is seeking transnational partnerships of regional authorities and other stakeholders (such as universities, research centres, clusters, and SMEs) willing to promote innovation partnerships at an interregional level in order to facilitate the commercialisation and growth of innovation projects and to promote business investment.

The call covers four areas (one partnership will be selected for each area):

  • Health, where the development of the value chain in this sector will focus on medical products or devices to combat coronavirus at every level, from conception to distribution.
  • Circular economy in the health sector, particularly regarding the safety and management of medical waste.
  • Sustainable and digital tourism.
  • Sviluppo tecnologie dell'idrogeno nelle regioni ad alta intensità di carbonio, ad esempio mediante la conversione delle miniere di carbone, delle fonderie o degli impianti di produzione esistenti.

Each selected partnership will benefit from a budget of up to 100,000 euros.

The deadline for this call is 7 September.

The call documentation can be downloaded at the bottom of this news item.
