To this end, the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) has published a "Public notice for expressions of interest for the selection of 30 members of the high-level Expert Group for the development of the national strategy on artificial intelligence", through which it intends to create an Expert Group to develop the National AI Strategy capable of identifying policies and tools related to the development and adoption of AI systems, focusing on objectives including:

  • Improving the coordination and strengthening of basic research in the field of AI
  • Encouraging public and private investment in AI, leveraging dedicated EU funds and attracting talent and entrepreneurial ideas in the field of AI
  • Promoting the development of the data economy with particular attention to the circulation and enhancement of non-personal data, adopting the best interoperability and cybersecurity standards
  • Organically reviewing applicable legislation with particular reference to safety and liability profiles in relation to AI-based products/services

The Group, chaired by the Minister of Economic Development or their delegate, will consist of experts from the business world or relevant trade associations operating in the AI sector, representatives of research bodies and centres from academia or think tanks, representatives of trade unions, the third sector, consumer groups or civil society, and representatives of the Ministry.
