Through the Innovation Fund, one of the most significant funding programmes in Europe for the demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies, the European Commission will support 47 projects aimed at the decarbonisation of Europe.
Regarding small-scale projects, 32 have been selected for their ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and innovate beyond the state of the art, totalling 118 million euros. The selected projects cover a wide range of sectors relevant to decarbonisation, from manufacturing to agriculture.
The winners include 4 companies from Lombardy, 3 of which are jointly involved in a project for the decarbonisation of Valcamonica. The grant agreement is scheduled to be signed by the end of 2021.
Among the large-scale projects, 15 have been selected which, although not considered mature enough to receive a grant, were judged to be sufficiently innovative and promising and will therefore receive tailored technical assistance worth 4.4 million euros from the European Investment Bank, with a view to potentially resubmitting the proposal in future programme calls. The winners also include 1 company from Lombardy.
