The Lombardy Mobility Cluster within the Italian and European landscape

On 19 October 2015, the conference "Clusters in the Italian and European Landscape" was held at the Lombardy Region headquarters in Milan, marking the conclusion of the first two years of activity for the LOMBARD MOBILITY CLUSTER.

The conference was introduced by the Deputy Director of the Lombardy Region's Department for Productive Activities, Research and Innovation, Armando De Crinito, who announced the forthcoming launch of calls for proposals to support clusters and the innovation projects they promote, as advocated by CLM President Saverio Gaboardi, based on the work carried out over the two-year period, including collaboration with equivalent national and European clusters.

Key speakers included Senator Massimo Mucchetti, President of the 10th Senate Commission for Industry, Trade and Tourism, who presented a recent study on "The automotive sector in major European countries", promoted by the Commission with the support of Unioncamere and Prometeia. Marco Bonometti, President of the Brescia Industrial Association, emphasised the importance of a supply chain approach to integrate diverse expertise in partnership with all stakeholders involved in the various stages of vehicle design and production.

The event also provided an opportunity to present the "Observatory of the Automotive Supply Chain in Italy" (prepared by ANFIA-STEP Ricerche) as well as the "Economic and Industrial Observatory of the Lombard Mobility Cluster", produced by the Cluster in collaboration with ANFIA, CNR-Ircres, ASSIFER, UCINA, KPMG, the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Brescia.

Professor Mastinu, Secretary General of the CLM, presented the Strategic Research Agenda for the mobility sector, looking ahead to 2030-2050 and outlining the priorities for 2020, as defined within the framework of the National Mobility Cluster.

Finally, several innovation projects currently underway at major Cluster companies were presented, focusing on products and processes for vehicle lightweighting and on alternative fuels, particularly liquefied natural gas, for industrial vehicles.

The proceedings were concluded by Marco Bonometti, President of the Brescia Industrial Association.
