EIC Transition: calls are now open

On 19 May, the European Commission opened the application portal for the EIC Transition programme, a new Horizon Europe instrument with a budget of approximately €100 million. The objective is to provide financial support for both the maturation and validation of innovative technologies and the development of a business model to facilitate their future commercialisation.

The programme is aimed at large enterprises, SMEs, start-ups, spin-offs, research centres and universities, either in consortia or as single applicants (the latter option is not available to large enterprises).

The EIC Transition is divided into two distinct calls:

  • EIC Transition Open: with no predefined thematic priorities.
  • EIC Transition Challenges: includes two challenges identified by the Commission as strategic for the Union's growth: Medical Technology and Devices - from Lab to Patient and Energy harvesting and storage technologies.

For 2021, proposals must be based on results generated by the following projects:

  • EIC Pathfinder projects (including projects funded under the EIC Pathfinder pilot, Horizon 2020 FET-Open, FET-Proactive, FET Flagships and FET ERAnet calls).
  • European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept projects.

The deadline for submitting proposals for both calls is 22 September.
