The European Commission has announced the allocation of €3.5 million to 35 innovative projects under the EIC Pathfinder Pilot scheme for the Innovation Launchpad call (cut-off 14 October 2020). The aim of the call is to help strengthen European competitiveness and foster an open mindset towards innovation and its exploitation. The projects were selected from a total of 118 applications, resulting in a success rate of 29.6%.
The winners, by percentage, are: higher education institutions (23%), SMEs (38%), research organisations (23%) and private organisations (17%).
Examples of projects include: a study of market opportunities for the generation of mid-air haptic textures (a technology that enables the virtualisation and digitisation of tactile interactions in mid-air, allowing, for example, the touching of holograms); the commercialisation of software that enables fast, non-invasive 3D visualisation of detailed bladder information in real time, facilitating the early diagnosis of bladder cancer; and the development of a business and action plan for the use of ultrathin carbon nanomembranes in battery and fuel cell applications, leading to smaller, more powerful and more reliable energy storage devices.
All selected projects will receive – in addition to the budget allocated per project – business acceleration and coaching services provided by the European Innovation Council.
