EIC Pathfinder Challenges: €145 million allocated to 39 projects

The results of the EIC Pathfinder Challenges calls, which closed last October, have recently been published. This instrument is dedicated to supporting the early stages of research and technological development for radical innovations capable of addressing global challenges or creating new market opportunities.

Out of 403 submitted projects, 39 have been selected, broken down by each of the five challenges as follows:

  • Awareness Inside: 8 projects aiming to develop new theoretical and technological tools for awareness applicable to artificial intelligence systems.
  • Tool to measure and stimulate activity in brain tissue: 8 projects focusing on new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies that leverage opportunities provided by recent technological advances (e.g. microelectronics or non-invasive imaging).
  • Emerging technology in cell and gene therapy (CGT): 8 projects aimed at developing new technological solutions and/or innovative concepts that go well beyond the current state of the art.
  • Novel routes to green hydrogen production: 8 projects that will focus on the production of green hydrogen based entirely on renewable sources and non-toxic raw materials.
  • Engineered living material: 7 projects that will develop innovative technologies and platforms for the production of living materials.

The requested funding amounts to €145 million, against a budget of €132 million.
