
The European Innovation Council has selected 35 winners for the Pathfinder Pilot call, part of the Horizon 2020 programme. The call funds radically innovative and high-risk ideas, with the aim of accelerating development in the most promising areas of science and technology. The projects will receive a total of 114 million euros.
22 projects have been selected under the Pathfinder Proactive programme, which encourages researchers from different disciplines to work together on new technologies in sectors such as human-centric artificial intelligence, implantable autonomous devices, and innovative zero-emission energy generation for full decarbonisation. The average budget per project was approximately 4 million euros.
The remaining 13 projects will be funded under the Transition to innovation activities scheme, which supports successful outcomes from mature research projects to commercialise the related activities. In this instance, the average budget is 2 million euros per project.
