EIC Horizon Prize “Blockchains for social good”: €5 million awarded

The European Commission has announced the 6 companies that have won the EIC Horizon Prize “Blockchains for social good”, an award from the European Innovation Council aimed at supporting the efforts of developers and civil society in exploring blockchain applications in the field of social innovation. Competition entries opened in May 2018 and closed in September 2019.

The projects selected for the award propose blockchain applications for fair trade and the circular economy, increasing transparency in production processes and providing quality information, improving accountability, and contributing to financial inclusion and renewable energy.

Among the winners is a Lombardy-based company: Prosume Srl from Milan, which secured the award in the energy category with its PROSUME project. PROSUME is a platform based on DLT technology that provides a decentralised and autonomous digital marketplace for peer-to-peer energy trading. Its objective is to integrate prosumers — consumers who are also producers of renewable energy — into the energy sector, which is highly monopolised and fossil-fuel based.
