The Digital Opportunity Traineeship, an EU-funded training initiative, aims to help companies fill digital vacancies with suitable candidates. Despite high levels of unemployment in Europe, 40% of businesses seeking ICT specialists report difficulties in finding the right people.
Digital skills are not only required in the ICT sector but are increasingly extending across all industries. Knowledge of cybersecurity, data analytics, and machine learning, among other examples, is necessary in sectors as diverse as banking, manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare. A workforce specialised in digitalisation is vital to maintaining Europe's global competitiveness in a rapidly evolving world.
The Digital Opportunity Traineeship initiative provides cross-border traineeships for up to 6,000 students and recent graduates between 2018 and 2020.
Companies that are part of the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition and businesses active in Horizon 2020 projects are at the heart of the initiative, but all companies are invited to offer these digital traineeships.
Those willing to host trainees can post their offer on ErasmusIntern and Drop'pin or advertise it through university channels. The initiative aims to offer companies easier access to enthusiastic, young, and highly educated workers eager to learn and apply their digital skills. The project is implemented through the European Commission's Erasmus+ programme, which is already connected to a vast network of universities across Europe.
