The European Commission published the 18 September calls relating to the Green Deal, a call for proposals aimed at funding research and innovation projects to address the climate crisis with a budget of 1 billion euros.
The call differs significantly from other Horizon 2020 calls, primarily in its aim to achieve clear results in the short-to-medium term, while maintaining a long-term perspective. The focus is particularly on rapid timelines for scalability, dissemination, and uptake.
The funded projects should deliver benefits in ten areas:
1. Increasing climate ambition
2. Clean, affordable and secure energy
3. Industry for a clean and circular economy
4. Energy and resource efficient buildings
5. Sustainable and smart mobility
6. Farm to fork
7. Biodiversity and ecosystems
8. Zero-pollution, toxic-free environments
Areas 9 and 10 (Strengthening knowledge and Empowering citizens, respectively) are more horizontal in nature compared to the previous ones and aim for a longer-term perspective.
There are 20 individual calls published, one for each specific topic. To view them, click here.
The deadline for submitting applications is 26 January 2021, and the selected projects are expected to commence in autumn 2021.
Furthermore, from 22 to 24 September, as part of the European Research & Innovation Days, the European Green Deal Call Info Day & Brokerage event will take place. This event is entirely dedicated to the calls in question and will allow participants not only to explore the relevant topics in depth but also to find partners for potential participation.
The factsheet for the call, prepared by the Commission, is available to download in the attachment.
