The European Commission has recently launched a call for European agri-food promotion programmes within the European Union and abroad. The total budget for 2020 amounts to €200.9 million, intended for the promotion of European agri-food products both within the Union and internationally. Of this total, €181.4 million is dedicated to the co-financing of promotion programmes, which will be selected from proposals submitted following the call's opening on 14 January.
A total of €118.4 million has been allocated for promotion programmes in non-EU countries with high growth potential, such as South Korea, Japan, Mexico, the United States, and China. The selected programmes will aim to increase the competitiveness and consumption of EU agri-food products worldwide.
The programmes may also serve to inform global consumers about various European quality schemes, such as geographical indications or organic products. Furthermore, these programmes may also promote the European Union's high safety and quality standards, as well as the diversity and authenticity of its products.
Within the Union, €8 million is earmarked for fresh fruit and vegetables, with the objective of increasing their consumption as part of a balanced and healthy diet.
The call is open to a wide range of organisations, including trade organisations, producer organisations, and agri-food bodies responsible for promotional activities.
Proposals must be submitted by 16 April 2020 via the dedicated portal. The Commission will then evaluate the proposals and announce the successful applicants next autumn.
