ERA-NET SUSFOOD2 call for proposals now open

ERA-NET SUSFOOD promotes greater cooperation and coordination between EU Member States and associated countries by funding research and innovation in the field of sustainable food systems.

ERANET SUSFOOD2 continues the coordination of research into sustainable food production and consumption for the 2017-2021 period, building on the work already initiated by SUSFOOD. The consortium now consists of 26 partners from 15 countries (plus 2 associated institutions from Belgium and New Zealand).

The SUSFOOD2 2017 transnational call for proposals, for funding applications for collaborative research and innovation in the field of sustainable food production and consumption, was launched on 09/01/2017, with a budget of approximately 14 million euros. The call is funded by 18 organisations from 15 countries. The MIUR will support the call with a grant budget of 500,000 euros; the MIPAAF with 100,000 euros.

The call follows a two-stage submission procedure, requiring the coordinator of each consortium to submit a pre-proposal and a full proposal. The deadline for the submission of pre-proposals is 13/03/2017. Consortia must be composed of at least three independent legal entities from at least three SUSFOOD2 partner countries. Each consortium may submit a proposal for only one of the following topics:

  • Topic1: Innovation in food processing technologies and products;
  • Topic2: Providing added value, increased resource efficiency and reduction of waste in sustainable food systems;
  • Topic3: Understanding consumer behaviour and food choices;
  • Topic4: Harmonisation of the methods and metrics for integrated assessment of sustainability of food products and food patterns.
