On 9 April, the European Commission officially launched the EIC Accelerator, a call for proposals aimed at supporting disruptive innovations from startups and SMEs. The scheme features a unique structure: winners may receive up to €2.5 million in grants combined with equity investments ranging from a minimum of €500,000 to a maximum of €15 million.
The total funding value exceeds €1 billion, over half of which is dedicated to breakthrough innovations in any field, while €495 million is reserved for innovations supporting the European Green Deal and digital and health technologies.
At the same time, the Commission has also launched the EIC Pathfinder with a budget of €168 million. Research teams can therefore apply for R&I grants to support the development of their breakthrough ideas, which are expected to have a positive, transformative impact on our economy and society.
