Lombardy leads Italy in EU funding for SME innovation

As reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, Lombardy is the Italian region that holds the record for the highest number of European innovation projects for SMEs.

Statistics compiled by the European Data Hub reveal that out of a total of 639 SME Instrument Phase 1 and 2 projects funded in Italy during the Horizon 2020 programme, approximately one third are based in Lombardy (199). The second-ranked region is Emilia-Romagna with 147 projects, followed by Lazio with 56.

Regarding the total value of grants received, the successful Lombardy-based companies benefited from a total of € 67 million in non-repayable funding, accounting for 37% of the Italian total.
