Negotiations between the European Union and Mexico regarding the new trade agreement concluded on 28 April. This agreement forms part of a broader global framework that also encompasses political cooperation, development, and human rights.
Once approved by the European Parliament and the Council, the agreement will eliminate duties on almost all trade in goods between the EU and Mexico, creating entirely new opportunities for strengthened investment protection. Furthermore, simplified customs procedures are planned to boost exports.
Mexico is the European Union's primary trading partner in Latin America: in 2019, bilateral trade in goods reached a value of €66 billion, while trade in services amounted to €19 billion in 2018. Additionally, EU exports of goods exceed €39 billion annually.
