The trend data for industrial production in Lombardy in the fourth quarter of 2018 confirms an ongoing slowdown, with growth rates falling compared to previous quarters. The average annual growth is lower than that of the previous year (+3.0% compared to +3.7% in 2017).
A key concern for 2019 is a decisive factor for businesses: confidence, which has an immediate impact on two areas: employment and investment.
Employment has stalled, recording a 0.3% decline in the fourth quarter. Although Lombardy maintains an unemployment rate in line with European levels (6.5% in the fourth quarter of 2018), the use of the wage guarantee fund (Cassa Integrazione) is beginning to rise again, showing a sharp acceleration in January.
