Lombardy's industrial production continued to grow in the first quarter of 2018, with a quarter-on-quarter increase of 1.1%. Year-on-year, production rose by 3.6%, in line with the 2017 average growth of 3.7%. Foreign orders continued to rise (a 1.0% quarter-on-quarter increase), while domestic orders remained unchanged. Against this backdrop, employment is showing initial signs of recovery, with all indicators significantly positive. Expectations for the coming quarter are improving.
"The recovery in Lombardy continues at a sustained pace," stated Marco Bonometti, President of Confindustria Lombardia, "and the data presented by Unioncamere confirm that Lombardy's businesses have moved from resisting to reacting. It is essential at this time not to undermine the efforts that have been made for growth."
