Horizon 2020 SME Instrument: a Lombardy-based company among the Phase II beneficiaries

Prophos Chemicals, based in Cremona, has been awarded nearly €2 million in funding for its PHOSave project.

The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) has published the results for the 3 February 2016 deadline of the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Phase 2.

Out of 533 proposals received from 14 countries, 161 were rated above the threshold and 47 were selected for funding, involving a total of 50 beneficiary companies.

Regarding Italy's performance, Italian companies ranked fifth with 3 selected proposals and 4 beneficiaries in total, following Spain (14), Germany (8), Finland (5), and France (5).

Prophos Chemicals of Cremona, the only Lombardy-based company among the 4 Italian firms funded in this round, secured nearly €2 million in funding for PHOSave, an innovative project for recovering phosphate from spent fire-extinguishing powders. The company is a member of the Cremona Industrial Association.

This achievement was made possible in part through the support of Confindustria Lombardia as part of the SIMPLER-Enterprise Europe Network project, and the Confindustria Delegation to the EU during the design and review phase of the project proposal.
