Description of content and objectives

To mark the Lombardy Energy Cleantech Cluster Day 2020, LE2C is organising the event “Sustainability and industrial symbiosis: a feasible commitment”: a day dedicated to sustainability and industrial symbiosis, during which the European R-ACES project (fRamework for Actual Cooperation on Energy on Sites and Parks), which focuses on these very topics, will be presented.

The project stems from considerations regarding the vast amount of energy and fuel wasted during production in various resource- and energy-intensive industries. Waste heat/cold from one industry can be a valuable resource for other industries, buildings, and district heating and cooling operators.

Industrial symbiosis (IS) represents a systemic eco-innovative approach that facilitates the transfer of materials, energy, water, and/or by-products between traditionally separate industries, also thanks to the synergistic possibilities offered by geographical proximity. The European R-Aces project aims to create a network of stakeholders promoting virtuous Eco-Regions aimed at reducing energy consumption by at least 10%, promoting the transition towards a circular economy model based on heat exchange and industrial symbiosis.
