Green Building and sustainable development goals: from greenwashing to extended sustainability

The conference - organised by LE2C, Politecnico di Milano and the University of Bergamo, with the support of Confindustria Lombardia (as part of the Enterprise Europe Network activities) - aims to illustrate the challenges and solutions for truly sustainable construction in our country, considering both the global and European 2050 targets and the specific characteristics of the Italian territory.

Event venue

The event will be held in a hybrid format, meaning it will be possible to attend in person (at the Politecnico di Milano) or join the conference remotely.

Target audience

The event is open to professionals, industry companies, researchers, and operators in the Real Estate sector.

Description of content and objectives

The objective of the conference is to examine how the Green Building sector is progressing towards sustainable development goals, highlighting current best practices and the technological challenges to be addressed regarding building-plant systems and their connections at the district and urban scale.

The speakers, both national and international, will introduce the concept of extended sustainability - which encompasses sustainability, resilience, and structural safety - to adapt it to the multiple specific challenges of our country, such as the seismic hazard of the national territory and hydrogeological risk, which are not as relevant in other European contexts.

During the event, industry experts will provide an analysis of how buildings will change in the near future, taking into account ongoing climate change, the measures to be implemented to prevent and mitigate such changes, and the need to create sustainable and safe buildings in more liveable and efficient cities.

Furthermore, cases of excellence from international experience and the world of research will be presented, outlining future development scenarios in the green building sector.

Finally, an open discussion will be held during which several companies will share their experiences and best practices, also resulting from University-Industry collaboration, with the aim of enhancing local research systems.
