Description of content and objectives

China, the world's second-largest economy, is increasingly dependent on the political consensus and economic behaviour of an expanding middle class, which is essential for more sustainable growth.

Domestically, reforms are stagnating, although the country has recently achieved symbolic milestones on the international stage, such as the G20 presidency in 2016. Significant Chinese capital and the ambition of the new Silk Roads are opening up various geopolitical scenarios: what are the international political and economic prospects of Chinese activism? Will President Xi Jinping succeed in fulfilling the 'Chinese dream' of prosperity and the country's cultural, economic, and military rise by 2049? What are the opportunities and challenges for Italian businesses?

These topics will be discussed at the meeting organised by Assolombarda Confindustria Milano Monza e Brianza and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI).
