Collecting payment, particularly in international transactions, can present significant challenges if the form, method, and timing of payment are not defined with the utmost clarity and completeness.
Understanding the techniques, characteristics, mechanisms, advantages, and disadvantages of the various payment methods used in international trade is therefore a strategic necessity for competing successfully in global markets.
In this context, the seminar aims to provide an understanding of the operational phases of documentary credit, specifically examining: its origins, legal framework, the International Chamber of Commerce’s Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (ICC Publication 600), the parties involved, types of credit, utilisation, the management of discrepancies, and the International Standard Banking Practice (ICC Publication 745).
The speaker will be Dr Alfonso Santilli, an Italian member of the Banking Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and Head of the International Department at Banca Popolare di Vicenza.
