Federico Ghidini: helping young people discover a passion for business is the greatest reward
Milan, 7 May 2016 – The final of the 2016 Management Game, a business simulation competition promoted by the Regional Committee of Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia for fourth-year students, was held today at the SIAM 1838 headquarters in Milan.
The 24th edition of the Management Game saw 65 schools and 577 teams participate across the various stages of the tournament (territorial, provincial and regional), involving a total of 2,308 students: figures that have grown since the previous edition. Eight Confindustria Lombardia territorial associations supported the 2016 edition of the Management Game.
The winners, awarded by the regional Education committee and the president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, Federico Ghidini, are students Marcello Bozzini, Chiara Introcaso, Giacomo Nicolini and Chiara Zerino from the ‘Taramelli-Foscolo’ State Higher Education Institute in Pavia, who won the 2016 edition of the Management Game. The team from the "Alberti" State Higher Education Institute in Bormio (Sondrio) took second place, with students from the Belfiore Scientific High School in Mantua also reaching the podium.
“If we were to summarise the 2016 edition of the Management Game with a hashtag, it would be #learningbyplaying, or more precisely, becoming an entrepreneur! The tournament was characterised across all Lombardy territories by a high level of passion, shown both by the young students who competed in the territorial, provincial and regional rounds, and by the Young Entrepreneurs who followed the tournament’s progress with enthusiasm. For this reason, this year’s Management Game has achieved its goal: beyond teaching business management concepts through a simulation game, the greatest reward has been helping the new generation discover a passion for business,” declared the president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia Federico Ghidini.
The goal of the competition is to maximise cumulative shareholder value through the use of a business management simulator. In the Management Game, budding entrepreneurs have the opportunity to simulate running a company using online software, making responsible decisions and verifying the results.
The criterion used to evaluate performance was the ‘total cumulative annual shareholder return’, which allowed the winning team to be selected based on the highest positive deviation from the average shareholder return in each market. The final of the business simulation tournament, the last of the three stages of the competition, was
held between the winning institutes from the previous rounds, in which teams had competed based on territorial and provincial divisions.
