Radura, meeting of Young Entrepreneurs with Stefano Boeri, the FVG Wood Supply Chain and the Honourable Salini

On Thursday 16 June, Radura hosted a discussion between the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, the FVG Wood Supply Chain, the Honourable Massimiliano Salini, and the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure, Mobility, Spatial Planning and Public Works of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

16 June 2016 – An experience from Design Week 2016 continues months after the event's conclusion: the “Radura” installation, created by Stefano Boeri Architetti in collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the FVG Wood Supply Chain, which brings together the key companies in the structural timber processing chain of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Consorzio Innova FVG, a public economic body dedicated to the development of the mountain region.

“Radura” is a new concept for public space, replicable in other urban areas worldwide, “an intimate space, even if brushed by the currents of metropolitan life – says Stefano Boeri – where one can experience a decompression from the frenzy of flows and exchanges”.

The installation, which was freely accessible until the end of June in the central lawn of the Pharmacy Courtyard at the State University, was an important opportunity to promote an example of national excellence: the FVG Wood Supply Chain. By bringing the Radura installation to Milan, it was able to showcase Friulian companies specialising in wood processing. It was a valuable opportunity to share the importance of wood conservation and craftsmanship with thousands of people.

Regional Councillor Dr Mariagrazia Santoro, Department for Infrastructure, Mobility, Spatial Planning and Public Works, comments on the Radura experience: “Today’s event is the natural outcome of the Radura project: a meeting space that becomes an opportunity to exchange new ideas and projects. Here today, the expertise and innovation capabilities of the best of Italian entrepreneurship—defined by creativity, knowledge, and collaboration—come together. The Radura project brings together the excellence of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s timber industry, united under the FVG Wood Supply Chain and Consorzio Innova FVG, under the careful guidance of a Region that cares deeply about its most innovative and future-oriented business network. This space, which appears as a defined circle, is a place that leaves its boundaries open to external influences. I am therefore very proud that this initiative connects Friulian industry with Lombard entrepreneurship, creating the very opportunities that Stefano Boeri’s project aimed to relaunch and preserve”.

The Radura installation was therefore an opportunity to relaunch companies involved in the wood supply chain and remains a valuable occasion for meeting and exchange between businesses that are geographically distant but united in their goal of working as a system.

Indeed, on Thursday 16 June, from 18:30 onwards, Radura welcomed the young entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, gathered for their regional committee meeting, the entrepreneurs of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region belonging to the FVG Wood Supply Chain, and the Honourable Massimiliano Salini, together with architect Stefano Boeri, who guided them through an exploration of Radura, from the concept it represents to the methods used in its construction.

“Today’s meeting represents an excellent opportunity for exchange between civil society and young Lombard entrepreneurs. The beautiful venue that hosted us today, the RADURA installation, is highly symbolic: for the business world, innovation represents that decisive element, the extra gear needed to stay one step ahead of the competition” stated the Honourable Massimiliano Salini.

“Today, young Lombard entrepreneurs are embarking on a path of opening their businesses to civil society. Cross-pollination is the lifeblood for the birth of ideas and the development of new business. The ambitious RADURA project by Stefano Boeri was appreciated by young entrepreneurs not only for the concept—which embodies the qualities entrepreneurs pursue daily, such as innovation, passion, and sustainability—but also and above all because it involves and rewards the wood industry supply chain. At the same time, the discussion with Mr Salini is a look towards Europe, to join forces in battles such as the defence of Made in Italy” declared the president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, Federico Ghidini.

The Radura project was further enriched through collaboration with another business that provided its support by custom-making all the installation’s seating using its finest fabrics: Selvanera. The Bolzano-based company of Luis Trenker is at the forefront of supporting projects that uphold local values and promote sustainable development, fostering awareness of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region throughout the rest of Italy.
