Record numbers for the 2017 edition of the Management Game organised by the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia: 77 schools and 3,188 students. Students from the Liceo Vittorini in Milan won the 25th edition.
Milan, 6 May 2017 – The 2017 edition of the Management Game, a business simulation competition promoted by the Regional Committee of Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia for fourth-year students, concluded today with the final held at the SIAM 1838 headquarters in Milan.
The 25th edition of the Management Game, which this year simulated a competition in the pharmaceutical market, saw the participation of 77 schools and 797 teams across the various stages of the tournament (territorial, provincial and regional), involving a total of 3,188 students: figures that have grown compared to the previous edition. Eight Confindustria Lombardia territorial associations joined and supported the 2017 edition.
The winners, awarded by the regional Education commission and the president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, Federico Ghidini, were the students of the Liceo Vittorini in Milan, sponsored by the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Assolombarda.
Also on the podium were the students of the Istituto Alberti in Bormio, who took the bronze medal, and the team from the Istituto Gadda Rosselli in Varese, who came second.
The president of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, Federico Ghidini, while congratulating the winners of the 2017 Management Game, emphasised that “the success of the tournament testifies to the innate desire for entrepreneurship present in the Lombard social fabric. Setting thousands of young people to compete, seeing them get passionate and battle it out with balance sheets, business strategies and analysis as if they were on a football pitch, is one of the most important and lasting roots that an industrial association can grow within a society to counter the spread of an outdated anti-industrial culture,” concluded Ghidini.
Beyond the numbers, thanks to the 2017 edition of the Management Game, the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia can boast another important achievement in education: from this year, following the agreement signed by the Young Entrepreneurs with the Lombardy Regional School Office, the Management Game has officially become an activity that students can certify as part of their school-work placement programme.
The objective of the competition is to maximise the cumulative shareholder value through the use of a business management simulator. In the Management Game, the apprentice entrepreneurs have the
opportunity to simulate the management of a company using online software, making responsible decisions and verifying the results. The criterion used to evaluate performance was the ‘total annual cumulative shareholder return’, which allowed the winning team to be selected based on the highest positive deviation from the average shareholder return in each market.
The final of the business simulation tournament, the last of the three stages of the competition, was
held between the winning schools from the previous rounds, namely the competitions within the schools followed by the provincial finals.
