Lombard industry explores China

From 8 to 16 June, a 30-person delegation will take part in the Study Tour organised by Confindustria Lombardia, Digital Innovation Hub Lombardia and the Varese Industrial Union. The 2019 #TechMission will visit Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and CES ASIA 2019

Varese, 5 June 2019 - Thirty entrepreneurs, managers and representatives of the Lombardy economy are ready to depart for a technology mission to Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, three of the world's major technology hubs, taking place from 8 to 16 June 2019. The initiative, led by Confindustria Lombardia and Digital Innovation Hub Lombardia, is part of the programme of fringe events for the World Manufacturing Forum 2019, which will be held on 25, 26 and 27 September at Villa Erba in Cernobbio.

All organisational aspects will be managed by the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese, which, together with Professor Marco Astuti, the mission's scientific advisor, has for years organised technology missions, known as #TechMission, to Silicon Valley and other global innovation hubs. The most recent experience, a few months ago, combined attendance at the "Consumer Electronics Show 2019" in Las Vegas with visits to key business enterprises in San Diego.

The mission has several objectives:

  • To understand how major Chinese industrial players are addressing the transition to the new digital economy and how these new technological paradigms are reshaping the structure of all economic sectors, with particularly significant effects on the manufacturing industry, the backbone of our local economy;
  • To gain insight into how digital technologies are changing organisational models, market approaches and the creation of new business models: scenarios that participants will experience first-hand in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen;
  • To visit CES ASIA 2019, where it will be possible to experience first-hand the latest innovations and trends in electric vehicles, Artificial Intelligence, mobile technology, and Augmented and Virtual Reality;
  • To facilitate networking among participants to encourage mutual understanding and lay the foundations for future collaborations, supported by the insights gained during the mission.

Participants will be able to engage with innovative experiences, solutions and technologies to adopt within their own companies to gain a competitive advantage, including by sharing the experiences of Italian companies operating in China.
