Bonometti: whoever wins the regional elections must put business at the centre; improve the competitiveness of the environment
Milan, 19 February 2018 – Business at the heart of regional policy: this was the core message conveyed by Confindustria Lombardia, through its President Marco Bonometti, to the candidates for the presidency of the Lombardy Region during a meeting held today in Milan at the headquarters of the Lombardy industrialists. Ahead of the regional elections on 4 March, Confindustria Lombardia shared the document ‘Proposals for a policy for the competitiveness of Lombardy’ with the candidates of the four main political groups: Attilio Fontana, Giorgio Gori, Dario Violi and Onorio Rosati. The document, produced with the contribution of the territorial associations, outlines the priorities and strategic lines that, according to the entrepreneurs, must be implemented and/or improved over the next five years to ensure a growing level of competitiveness for Lombardy.
President Marco Bonometti expressed satisfaction with the discussion: “Business is one of the primary social assets to be valued and defended; it is through businesses that the economic and social well-being of a territory is created. What Confindustria Lombardia proposes, in line with the vision presented by Confindustria at the Verona Assise, is a competitiveness policy that leads Lombardy to compete consistently with the most dynamic and innovative regions in Europe and commits the regional government to focus its action on the development of Lombardy’s manufacturing sector, as a fundamental vehicle for economic and employment growth,” declared Bonometti.
“The Lombardy Region – stressed President Bonometti – must continue to work on the competitiveness of businesses, but it can do a great deal, above all, to improve the competitiveness of the environment in which businesses operate: above all, simplification has become unavoidable to make the Lombard system even more high-performing; we must complete strategic infrastructure works such as the Pedemontana and contribute to resolving the crisis in exceptional transport.”
For Confindustria Lombardia, there are two levels on which action must be taken over the next 5 years:
- business competitiveness: strategic and prudent use of resources and targeted interventions on innovation, digitalisation, internationalisation and education;
- competitiveness of the environment: simplification of public administration, investment in tangible and intangible infrastructure, and greater attention to the territory and the environment;
There are three special projects already in place to be further strengthened and enhanced: the World Manufacturing Forum, the Clusters, EUSALP.
“Whoever finds themselves in the governor’s chair of the Lombardy Region from 5 March – concluded Bonometti – will be able to count on the constructive collaboration and contribution of Confindustria Lombardia, which will constantly monitor the timing and methods of implementing the programme in everyone’s interest.”
