The fifth mission to the United States in just over three years by the Lombardy business community, #TechMission2018, has landed in Las Vegas. It is being held under the banner of the Young Entrepreneurs Group of Confindustria Lombardia, in close collaboration with the US Consulate in Milan. Organisational aspects are managed by the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese, drawing on its long-standing experience in supporting the Italian production system across the Atlantic, with scientific coordination provided by Professor Marco Astuti.
The trip, which will involve 50 entrepreneurs, managers, university professors, and representatives of the Confindustria system from 7 to 14 January, features two key stages: the first (7–10 January) will be participation in the CES – Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in Las Vegas, one of the world's most important technology trade fairs; the second will be in Seattle (10–14 January), where the delegation will meet prominent figures from the American digital world.
Participants in the mission include the President of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Lombardia, Federico Ghidini, the President of the Young Entrepreneurs Group of the Industrial Union of the Province of Varese, Mauro Vitiello, and the President of the GGI of Assolombarda, Mattia Macellari.
#TechMission2018 has three main objectives.
The first is to enable participants to visit the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 (CES), where they can experience the latest innovations and trends in Information & Communication Technology first-hand, with a view to integrating them into high-value-added Italian production systems, and to attend presentations and events hosted by some of the world's leading digital technology experts. As part of the various panels, the Italian delegation is scheduled to attend private meetings with organisations such as Qualcomm, Sony, Panasonic, BTicino (Legrand Group), Sensoria, and start-upper Alberto Rizzoli of Poly.
The second objective is to explore how digital transformation, driven by new technologies, is changing both the way we work and how companies approach the market. This will be achieved through direct engagement with industry giants on the US West Coast, including scheduled visits to the global headquarters of Amazon and the headquarters of Microsoft. The delegation will also meet with entrepreneur Maurizio Miozza to discuss the experience of an Italian manufacturing company in Seattle: Umbra Group.
The third objective is to facilitate specific networking activities among participants to maximise mutual understanding and lay the foundations for future collaborations upon their return to Italy, based on the insights gathered during the mission.
The mission will conclude with a scheduled meeting with the Italian Consul in Seattle, Franco Tesorieri.
